    A Closer Look at the Weather

    This week, with The Playful Pioneers curriculum we studied cloud formations, the water cycle AND rainbows.  We decided to combine it all in one neat study for our readers to enjoy. We began with our beloved “Nature Anatomy” by Julia Rothman (broken record, I know!).     Our Curriculum Choices

    We started this school year with one in Preschool and one in Grade 2.  Late in the summer, I had stumbled upon “The Peaceful Press” and once I researched their curriculum offering of “The Playful Pioneers”, I knew it was something special we would all enjoy.  The fact that it is based on “The Little House” series tugged at my heartstrings since this book series was so special to me when I was young (and now even more special at “not-so-young”).  “Little House Series” by Laura Ingalls Wilder This curriculum…

    A Closer Look at Trees

    Today’s activity with The Playful Pioneers brought us to the study of trees.  We were happy to have our well-loved “Nature Anatomy” by Julia Rothman to use as a guide for the day’s studies.   I quickly set up a interactive diagram of a tree using our Playmobil and a few basic (very) labels, including tree roots.  Miss 6 read the part names and along with Miss 4, they were able to complete this together easily.       We used our “Trees” by Safari Ltd to compare the characteristics…
